DR. SARAH JOHNSON
BOARD CERTIFIED FAMILY PHYSICIAN
Hello! I can't wait to meet you.
My name is Dr. Johnson but most of my patients just call me Dr. Sal. Being a physician has taught me so much about the world around me and I owe it to my patients for helping me to become a better, more connected and grounded person.
As Portland residents for the past several years, my husband Chris and I have fallen in love with the heart and soul that drives this growing city. It was an easy decision to put down roots both personally and professionally here. After completing my undergraduate degree at Boston College, I moved to Maine to attend medical school at University of New England, where I quickly realized I wanted to care for people of all ages and all walks of life. Becoming a family doctor was an easy choice for me as I moved on to complete my residency training at Maine Dartmouth in Augusta. Currently, I am working as an attending hospitalist at Northern Light Mercy Hospital right here, in Portland!
Over the years, I have developed a passion for lifestyle and preventative medicine with a strong interest in nutrition, health optimization, and longevity. With the creation of Rhythmia, I hope to emphasize personalized care that centers around each patient's own individual story. Additionally, as an artist and performing musician, I feel strongly about the role that art, collaboration, and creativity has played in keeping me healthy and balanced. As a training physician, I couldn't help but notice how little we focus on creativity, adventure, music and the arts in healthcare. How can we leave something so critical out of the formula?

With Rhythmia, I hope to curate the accessible and relatable care that Portland creatives have been seeking. I hope that by stepping outside of the box myself, that I will help to inspire patients to see the beauty in stepping outside the box themselves.
Your Questions, Answered.
What is a PCP?
A primary care provider cares for most people and most problems most of the time. They epitomize the one-stop shop philosophy that can take care of most non emergent medical needs. In any given day they can go from a preventative visit, to screening for depression, to treating pneumonia, to stitching a laceration. They act as your advocate, your advisor, and your coach. They can give you peace of mind by providing the great care you need.
Can my whole family join?
I would love that! I am board certified in Family Medicine and have been trained in the care of adults, children, babies and pregnant women. I enjoy caring for the whole family and see immense value in doing so.

Children can join Rhythmia at a discounted
price of $70/mo.
Why pay a monthly fee if I have insurance?
At any other primary care office, you are going to be paying a co-pay and an office visit charge of at least $150. That is not excluding any additional charges for blood work or kit testing (flu, strep, etc). At Rhythmia, blood work is roughly 90% discounted when billed with us and all kit testing is included. There are no co-pays or office visit charges and we offer full transparency with all payments ahead of time. Not to mention 30-60 minute visits instead of the 5-10 minutes you are used to!
Is there a discounted membership for students?
Absolutely!
College students can join Rhythmia at a discounted price of $500/semester.

Discounted pricing is also available to medical students and residents on request.
Can you make specialist referrals?
Yes. If you have insurance and wish to use that at a specialist's office, be mindful that you might need a prior authorization. If you are unsure about this, just contact your insurance carrier and see what is required. I would be glad to take care of things at that point.
What if I have to go to the hospital?
It is recommended that you have high deductible insurance so that you have coverage in the event that you are hospitalized. If you are hospitalized, I will follow up with you during and after your hospitalization and will be sure to add your records to your chart once discharged.
